Playground Leadership Training

Posted: 19th April '10

After successful pilots with several schools co-ordinated by School Sports Co-ordinators from the Northern Warwickshire School Sports Partnership, SportFit have launched their national package.

The training takes place over a school day and incorporates a morning and afternoon session. Business Manager Chris Dodds comments “Up to 24 pupils and 3 auxiliary staff, most commonly lunchtime supervisors, can take part in each session. The objectives are to give the children the confidence and knowledge to safely put-on activities for the younger children, whilst building awareness and appreciation of the programme with auxiliary staff.”

So far, SportFit has delivered the training to approximately 200 children and 10 members of staff. The current format has proved the most successful with each session lasting 2 hours 15 minutes. All the children that recieve training are given a certificate and the school is also awarded a certificate for taking part.

Director Tim Warner talked of the companies plans to expand the programme “We are targeting the West Midlands between now and July but aim to have targeted at least 3 more counties by the end of the year. The programme is delivered by experienced members of staff and has been very well recieved.”
